For best results, we recommend taking your patient’s cast with them in a standing position, bearing weight on the leg. The affected or injured leg should always be the leg that is cast. See the video below for step-by-step instructions on making a cast of a pet’s limb.

My patient won’t stand up, is it ok to cast the pet’s leg lying down?
Although, we prefer a dog to stand as they are cast but not every dog is able to or cooperates. You can cast a pet’s leg with them lying prone on their side, if you chose this method make sure your pet’s leg and foot are in a natural, standing position (as they would be if they were truly weight-bearing). Also, please note on your order form that the pet was cast lying down.
